Paraíso Perdido is a musical performance carried out under the artistic residency program Aki Aora in Tulúm, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Created with the intention of addressing current local issues through music, sound and performance, this piece explores the devastation of nature and Mayan mythology.

In a kind of syncretic ritual lasting several hours, four characters perform various actions immersing viewers in an abstract narrative that refers to the process of the destruction of Eden. It begins with the image of the idyllic paradise that is gradually devastated. Accompanying this elapse before sunset is an immersive sound environment performed live with voices and ethnic instruments that are transformed and deconstructed in real time with the help of electronic devices.

During the work various narrations in Mayan are heard describing the creation of the world and mankind, as well as its descent towards the end of time according to this culture´s mythology. The narrations in Mayan are interspersed with narrations in English of anthropological themes that reflect on colonialism, notions of the primitive man and shamanism.

The performance was made in collaboration with Nabil Yanai, UNX and Alejandro Kulkulkan.
