Riesgo, 2015

Riesgo is an opera for four voices, instrumental ensemble and live electronics. It was composed from an original idea by the Mexican cultural promoter Juan Ayala and adapted by the Spanish screenwriter Emma Bertrán.

During five acts that forge into the scene like hammers, we face the feelings of resentment and futility that permeate three characters during their last days as a family. A fourth character acts as coryphaeus and manifests between the characters as a spectral voice emanating from their consciousness. During the opera the institution of conjugal love is reduced to a container of bitterness and repentance while the protagonist’s legacy is presented to us as the inevitable return of the fatality of his decisions.

Riesgo premiered at the Macedonio Alcalá theater in Oaxaca and was presented at the Festival de ópera y arte contemporáneo FOCO and at the Foro de las artes, Centro Nacional de las Artes, CENART.
